During his time in Ann Arbor, former Michigan football staffer Biff Poggi was a major part of the Wolverines’ coaching staff. Serving in two roles under Jim Harbaugh at Michigan — as an analyst in 2016 and as associate head coach from 2021-2022 — Poggi was known as Harbaugh’s right-hand man; his “go-to” guy of sorts. Today, the ex-staffer and current head coach at Charlotte broke his silence on the sign-stealing scandal as the Big Ten prepares its punishment ahead of tomorrow’s top-10 Michigan-Penn State game.

Biff Poggi was a major part of the Michigan football coaching staff during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, and has been attributed as a major turning point for Jim Harbaugh as well. Poggi would push back on Harbaugh, unlike most others, and set the tone for the team’s elite locker room culture, leading to a massive turn around from the start of the decade to the following two seasons.

After Michigan football went 13-1 last fall, Poggi accepted a head coaching job with Charlotte, though today, he finally chimed in on the sign-stealing rumors and more.

“I have been quiet on the Michigan situation BUT NO longer,” Biff Poggi said on Friday afternoon in a tweet. “I was closer to Jim Harbaugh over the last three years than anyone except his wife and kids. If Jim (Harbaugh) knew (about the sign-stealing scandal), I would have known. I didn’t know, and neither did he. I stake my reputation on it. Stop whining and get a better team.”

If Biff Poggi is willing to stake his reputation on this claim, it undoubtedly has some weight. Additionally, so far, none of the investigations into Michigan football have proven that Jim Harbaugh knew about anything that was going on with Connor Stalions, meaning as of right now, Poggi’s claim checks out.
