Over the weekend, the Wolverines (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) defeated Rutgers in their Big Ten opener at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. Following the game, Ohio State and Notre Dame took the field for a primetime kickoff in South Bend — the Irish eventually fell, 17-14. After the game, Ryan Day went off in his post-game interview, ranting about disrespect and more; and on Sunday, former Michigan football star edge rusher Mike Morris seemingly fired right back at Day’s comments.

Michigan football star fires back at Ryan Day comments following Notre Dame win

Ryan Day rants, calls out 86-year-old man after Week 4 win

Ohio State narrowly beat Notre Dame on the final play of the game. The Buckeyes’ 17-14 win over the Irish in South Bend was impressive, and it spurred Ryan Day to give an emotionally driven rant after the game during his post-game interview on the field.

“I’d like to know where (ex-Notre Dame head coach) Lou Holtz is right now,” Ryan Day said immediately after the win. “What he said about our team, what he said about our team — I cannot believe. This is a tough team right here. We’re proud to be from Ohio, and it’s always been Ohio against the world. And it will continue to be Ohio against the world. But I tell you — I love those kids and we have a tough team.

“Everybody’s questioning these kids all the time. We had one bad half the last couple of years. That’s it. Everybody wants to question these guys. These guys are warriors that can win. … I’m emotional about this for a reason. A lot of people question these kids and say a lot about them. And I love them. When someone attacks your family, to come in and win is special. It’s a great win for our program and a great win for Ohio State.”

Ryan Day is simply incorrect

Now, before I get into what former Michigan football star Mike Morris said, I’d like to point out that Ohio State has played more than one bad half of football over the past few years. From getting beat down by Alabama in 2020 to back-to-back blowout losses to Michigan, the Buckeyes have seen multiple bad halves, leading to some fans and analysts labeling them as “soft.” Which, if you could not tell, appears to have Day upset.

Ex-Michigan football star Mike Morris responds on Sunday night

Regardless, back to the topic at hand — what Mike Morris said on Sunday night. Here is Morris’s words, via his Twitter/X account.

“Always ranked in the top 4 every year in the NCAA,” Morris said in his Tweet, which doesn’t mention Ohio State by name, but was more than likely directed at Ryan Day and the Buckeyes. “Always got the best receiving core, and get praised for everything y’all do, and everybody against you? Delusional!”

Wolverines and Buckeyes slates to face-off in late November

Michigan football will face Ohio State later this year, searching for a third-straight victory over the Buckeyes. In 2021, the last time OSU came to Ann Arbor, the Wolverines took home a 42-27 victory before claiming a 45-23 victory in Columbus the following year.

Right now, both Michigan and Ohio State are 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten play, ranking among the top-four teams nationally.
