Yesterday, with Jim Harbaugh suspended by the Big Ten Conference due to sign-gate, Sherrone Moore was the acting Michigan football coach who led the Maize and Blue to a 9-point victory in Happy Valley against the No. 10 Penn State Nittany Lions. After the game, Moore shared insight into what it was that Harbaugh told him before the Wolverines’ impressive and historic victory over the Blue and White, improving to 10-0 heading into the Maryland game.

Right after Saturday’s win over Penn State, Sherrone Moore was emotional and ecstatic, shedding tears and praising the entire University of Michigan football program and school leadership in his post-game interview.

What did Harbaugh tell Sherrone Moore before the Penn State win?

A little while later, when emotions settled, Sherrone Moore explained what it was that Jim Harbaugh said to him and how it boosted Michigan football to a massive win against a top-10 Penn State team.

“Play for yourselves, play for the team, and play for Michigan. That is the constant message,” Sherrone Moore said. “(Jim Harbaugh) didn’t make it about him. Just play for everybody you’ve always played for. Think about this game as you’re in the backyard with your boys, with your friends, and just go win.

“This was a tournament game for us, a playoff game for us, so we knew we had to do whatever we needed to do to win. It’s been a crazy 24 hours but at the same time, our team is built for this. Our staff is built for this. We’re all built for it.”

Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines did exactly as Jim Harbaugh said yesterday afternoon — Michigan dominated on both sides of the ball, and despite the fact that JJ McCarthy did not pass the ball in the second half of the Penn State win, the Wolverines still came away with a two-score win over the No. 10 Nittany Lions.
