This morning, we broke down a new commitment date for four-star defender Jacob Smith, a highly sought-after prospect nationally and a major Michigan football recruiting target in the 2024 cycle. However, Michigan Rivals recently reported an update regarding Smith’s commitment date. According to the update, Smith has decided to postpone his announcement and will no longer be revealing his commitment tomorrow afternoon.

Major Michigan football recruiting target changes commitment plans

Jacob Smith, a four-star linebacker/edge rusher, is considered one of the top remaining targets for Michigan football in the 2024 class. Initially, he had planned to announce his commitment on Thursday evening, but the latest information from Michigan Rivals indicates a delay in his decision. This means that Michigan fans will have to patiently wait for his official commitment to a program.

Currently, all indications suggest that Jacob Smith is leaning towards choosing the Wolverines. According to the Recruiting Prediction Machine, Michigan is the favored choice with over 94% confidence. Additionally, Michigan leads in RPM picks and crystal balls, further solidifying their status as the front-runners in this recruitment under Jim Harbaugh’s leadership.

Based on the 247 Sports composite rankings, Jacob Smith is a highly regarded four-star edge rusher. He is ranked as the No. 211 player in the nation, the No. 17 edge rusher in his class, and the No. 4 player in the state of Connecticut. It is worth mentioning that Smith has shown significant interest in Michigan thus far, particularly because his brother, four-star linebacker Jerod Smith, committed to the Wolverines a few months ago.
