Today, Power 5 guard Jose Perez entered the transfer portal after spending the 2022-23 season with the West Virginia Mountaineers. Among the early top contenders for his transfer are Juwan Howard and the Michigan basketball program, who are aiming to rebuild after a sub-par season last winter. With rapid movement of transfers in and out of Ann Arbor, the Wolverines have shown a strong interest in adding Perez to their roster for the upcoming season as they strive to regain their status as Big Ten and national title contenders.

Jose Perez has the potential to become a significant addition to the Michigan basketball transfer portal class and could play a vital role on the Wolverines’ roster as they prepare for the upcoming season. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, Perez is a graduate transfer guard who brings an impressive combination of size and skill to the court.

Notably, Perez is embarking on his fifth college stop, having previously showcased his talent at Marquette, Manhattan, and Gardner-Webb before transferring to WVU for the 2022-23 season. Unfortunately, he did not have the opportunity to play at WVU last season, and is now in search of a new home with lots of national interest in his newly-reopened recruitment.

During the 2021-22 season, which was his most recent season of in-game action, Jose Perez displayed his prowess on the court, averaging 18.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. Shooting nearly 40% from the floor, Perez showcased his scoring efficiency. With his imposing 6-5, 220-pound frame, along with his dangerous scoring ability and innate talent, Perez is poised to be a valuable asset wherever he chooses to go next.

According to recent reports from Joe Tipton, Michigan basketball is a leading program in the race to secure the commitment of this West Virginia transfer guard for the 2023-24 season, and was one of the first programs to reach out to the new transfer portal entry.
