New Michigan basketball transfer addition Olivier Nkamhoua is a significant pick-up for the Wolverines heading into the 2023-24 season. This winter, Juwan Howard and company will be looking to get their program back on track after a disappointing 2022-23 season. Adding players of Olivier Nkamhoua’s caliber is essential for the Wolverines, and he could be a difference-maker this year. Recently, on the ‘Defend the Block’ podcast, Olivier Nkamhoua explained why he chose to hit the transfer portal and head to Ann Arbor and play for the Michigan Wolverines.

Why did Olivier Nkamhoua transfer to Michigan basketball?

Olivier Nkamhoua, a new Michigan basketball transfer addition, has been generating significant regional and national hype ahead of his first year with the Maize and Blue this winter. He had a solid year with Tennessee last season, and despite some recruitment fireworks down the stretch, the Wolverines surprisingly came out on top and secured another crucial addition.

Recently, on the ‘Defend the Block’ podcast with Jon Jansen, Olivier Nkamhoua discussed why he chose to commit to the Maize and Blue ahead of the 2023-24 season.

“You know, I don’t put anything out there until it’s the truth,” Nkamhoua said of his transfer portal recruitment. “I kept everything very quiet and close to the chest. But it was a great process and I think I made the right decision — I took my time and I looked at all my options. With Phil [Marteli] having recruited me out of high school and the relationship I was able to build with Juwan [Howard] throughout the process … even talking to the players; I just felt like it was a place I could come and grow and join a bunch of guys who have a similar mindset to myself.”

What does this new transfer portal signee bring to the table for the Maize and Blue?

Olivier Nkamhoua is expected to be a versatile and impactful presence on the hardwood for Michigan basketball during the upcoming season. He shared some insights on what Wolverines fans can expect from him during his time in the Maize and Blue.

“I’m a very versatile player, I try to be very high-energy,” Olivier Nkamhoua said. “I am a team guy — I can stretch the floor, I can drive the ball, and I use my athleticism well.”
