Blake Corum was nearly a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2022, which would have been the second year in a row that the Wolverines had a star player in New York by the season’s end. For Michigan football, losing Corum in Week 11 against the Illinois Fighting Illini was not ideal, yet it did not stop Michigan from beating Ohio State by 22, winning the Big Ten title by 21, and appearing in the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row.

With Corum’s return to action on the horizon, the nation is taking note. Ahead of the 2023 season, Pro Football Focus has ranked the Wolverines’ star running back as the No. 2 player in all of college football.

A season ago, Blake Corum made his mark in Big Ten history, despite missing Michigan’s three most significant games of the year. Nevertheless, when the spotlight shone brightest, such as during their impressive victories over Penn State (41-17) and others, Corum rose to the challenge and left a lasting impression before being sidelined.

When all was said and done, Blake Corum concluded the 2022 season with 1,463 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns in 10.5 games. He also surpassed the 100-yard mark in every Big Ten game last season, except for the game against Ohio State, in which he only had two carries.

With Corum fully recovered from his knee injury, the anticipation surrounding this year’s Michigan football offense is growing with each passing moment.

“When I say recovery is going great, it’s going great,” Blake Corum said. “My knee is feeling stronger than ever, I’m feeling stronger than ever. The other day, I started cutting for the first time. I’m getting my cuts back, I’m going to be making a lot of people miss this year. Within these next couple weeks, I hope to be anywhere from 90 to 100 percent, and back to the regular BC.”

In fact, the hype surrounding Michigan football and senior running back Blake Corum reached an all-time high when PFF ranked the Wolverines’ star rusher as the No. 2 overall player in college football. The only player ranked ahead of Corum on PFF’s list is Caleb Williams, the quarterback of the USC Trojans, who won the Heisman last fall.

With a revamped offensive line and increased support from the rest of the Michigan football offense, Blake Corum is poised to make another run at the Heisman. More importantly, he and the Wolverines are determined to secure a third-straight Big Ten title and national championship during the 2023-24 campaign.
