Last weekend, Blake Corum made a return to the field for the first time since he was taken out of the Ohio State game (2022) just a few plays in. While Corum didn’t have the most impressive game of his career — he posted 73 yards and a touchdown on the ground — it was still good to see him getting back into the swing of things, especially on his impressive 37-yard carry. Heading into Week 2, the nation is still wondering about Corum’s health; yesterday, Michigan football coach Mike Hart gave the media a positive injury update on where things stand.
Michigan football coach gives positive injury update for Blake Corum
According to Mike Hart — the Wolverines’ running backs coach and one of two interim head coaches for this weekend’s game — there are “no concerns” when it comes to Blake Corum and his knee injury. Since the 2023 season started, Corum has emphasized that he is feeling great, and it sounds like the injury talk is behind us; at least for the time being.
“Blake (Corum) is back,” Michigan football coach Mike Hart said. “No concerns. I think he’s been really successful in this conference, in college football — I don’t think he needed to get tackled much here in camp. I don’t think it’s worth it. Same thing with Donovan (Edwards). They’re both back. But just happy with both of them. I think that they both ran hard; they both played hard. Donovan had more touches than Blake, and Blake’s such a great leader, no complaints, no anything from him. And they’re both special, and obviously, we want to give them as many touches as we can.”
Wolvernies’ running back room is great shape heading into Week 2
The best news for Michigan football this year is that the team can afford to keep Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum healthy due to the room’s impressive depth. From seniors like Kalel Mullings to freshmen like Ben Hall (and everyone in between), Mike Hart is confident that Michigan football can rotate a lot throughout the season. In fact, he is still unsure of who is the No. 3 running back on this year’s team heading into the UNLV game.
Having incredible depth is great news for Michigan football and Blake Corum, especially when paired with yesterday’s positive injury update from Mike Hart.
“I think we have four number-three backs, to be honest with you,” the Michigan football coach explained on Monday. “I’m not really worried. If you asked me that question last year, a little bit more of a concern with the unknown, ‘Who’s the fourth back? Is CJ (Stokes) going to be ready to go? He’s a true freshman.’ I think we’re deep. I feel really good about the backfield position. I feel comfortable with Kalel (Mullings) going into the game, CJ (Stokes) going into the game, Ben (Hall) going into the game, (Tavierre) Dunlap when he gets back, had a great fall camp. All those guys can play. Cole Cabana, he can play. It’s just being smart and using them in the right situations, but I’m not really worried about who the third back is because I trust them all to go in there and do what they need to do based on the game situation.”
