HOUSTON — Today, just days before the National Championship Game between the No. 1 Wolverines and the No. 2 Washington Huskies, Jim Harbaugh met with the media. While the future of his Michigan football coaching career remains uncertain, it’s still promising, especially with a guy like Sherrone Moore currently on staff.

Latest intel on Michigan football coaching staff outlook leading up to National Championship Game

Jim Harbaugh will not give an update on where he will be after the 2023-24 college football season — that much has become clear. In fact, today, Harbaugh was asked about his future once again amid title game prep and NFL rumors, and he deflected it once more.

“Yeah, there’s a calendar — I’ll gladly talk about the future next week,” Harbaugh said. “And I hope to have one, how about that? A future — I hope to have one.”

While Jim Harbaugh won’t give insight into his future just yet, the future of the Michigan football coaching staff remains very bright. Why? Well, offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore appears to be the next man up if Harbaugh is to head to the NFL after this season.

Jim Harbaugh endorses Sherrone Moore

According to Jim Harbaugh, Sherrone Moore is a “shining star” for Michigan football — it sounds like an endorsement to be Michigan’s next head coach in the event that Harbaugh takes off.

“(Sherrone Moore is) tremendous,” Jim Harbaugh explained. “We’ve already seen it, right? You’ve already got a glimpse of the shining star that he is. He’s just phenomenal, so smart, and works so hard at it. Knows what it’s like to be a player. Was a player. And really, really composed. If something goes wrong, three, two, one, let it go. He’s tremendous at that. Never better than he was in that two-minute drive in the Rose Bowl and in overtime. Knew he had to call the game, the drive of his life, and he did.

“Saw the same thing when he’s coaching against Ohio State in the Big House. The same thing when he went to Penn State. How about that? You gotta go to Penn State, you find out the day before the game, in addition to your offensive line coaching duties, your offensive coordinating play duties, and your play-calling duties, you’re also going to make the head coach decisions as well.

“So Sherrone Moore (is a) shining star, no doubt about it,” Harbaugh continued. “It doesn’t even matter what anybody says. It’s what you do. What you do speaks so loudly can’t even hear what you’re saying.”

So far this fall, with Jim Harbaugh being suspended and more, Sherrone Moore is 4-0 as Michigan’s acting head coach, downing Bowling Green, No. 10 Penn State, Maryland, and No. 2 Ohio State. Even if Jim Harbaugh decides to head back to the NFL after the National Championship Game, the future of the Wolverines’ coaching staff is as bright as ever with Moore waiting in the wings.
