The Michigan Wolverines are just a few weeks out from their Rose Bowl matchup with No. 4 Alabama, which will send one of the two teams to the national title game next month. As preparation for the CFP semi-final continues, Michigan football is also eying the transfer portal for potential additions to next year’s roster; in fact, things appear to be going quite well with a number of targets. According to a series of new crystal balls, the Wolverines appear close to landing a priority transfer portal target: Upton Stout, a Western Kentucky defensive back who has been compared time and time again to Michigan captain Mike Sainristil.

Michigan football trending to land major transfer portal target

In 2022, Michigan football moved Mike Sinaristil from wide receiver to defensive back — a bold move, given that Sairistil was one of the Wolverines’ top receivers at the time. That said, the move worked out incredibly well, seeing as he turned into one of the top corners nationally and a team captain for Michigan. However, Sainrisitl’s time in Ann Arbor will soon be coming to an end, as he is out of eligibility at the end of the 2023 season.

In 2024, Michigan could add a new piece from the transfer portal — a defensive back who has been Western Kentucky’s version of Sainristil over the past few seasons. Since entering the portal, Stout has caught the end of a number of top programs nationally; however, it appears that Michigan football is leading the race right now.

After Stout spent a few days in Ann Arbor visiting with the Wolverines’ coaching staff this past weekend, a number of 247 Sports crystal balls began to roll in, favoring the Maize and Blue to lock down his commitment.

From national reporters to Michigan insiders, it appears that everyone expects Michigan football to land Upton Stout — all of these predictions have pretty high confidence levels as well.

Throughout his career with Western Kentucky, Upton Stout appeared in 21 games, making 73 tackles, two tackles for loss, and five interceptions. His performance also earned him a number of All-Conference accolades and more over the past two years, turning heads around the nation when he decided to transfer.
