When Jim Harbaugh left the Wolverines, he took a lot of key staff members with him. Now that Sherrone Moore is leading the Michigan football program, he is looking to rebuild some of these staffing losses, even making it a priority to court a top Notre Dame staffer; however, Marcus Freeman just got his first win over the Maize and Blue.

Notre Dame fends off push from Michigan football and Sherrone Moore for top staffer

Since Notre Dame first hired Marcus Freeman in place of Brian Kelly, who left for LSU in 2022, the Fighting Irish and Michigan football are yet to face off on the gridiron; in fact, the last time the two iconic programs met was in 2019, when Michigan won 45-14 at the Big House in Ann Arbor.

That said, Freeman and his Fighting Irish just earned a solid off-field victory over the Wolverines, managing to fend off Sherrone Moore and his new-look Michigan football coaching staff from poaching one of Notre Dame’s top staffers: Chad Bowden.

According to FootballScoop, Michigan was pushing hard to poach Bowden, Notre Dame’s director of recruiting, and stick him in a new role in Ann Arbor: director of player personnel. Still, despite Michigan’s best efforts (and an ambitious play from new head coach Sherrone Moore), Notre Dame has retained Chad Bowden heading into the 2024 season.

For the time being, Sherrone Moore and Michigan football still have their work cut out for them — regarding holes to fill on the coaching staff and on the roster — before spring ball, fall camp, and eventually, Week 1 of the 2024 season roll around.
