Semaj Morgan, a Michigan football freshman this fall, has been outstanding during the time that he has gotten to see the field. After making a contested grab for a touchdown against Rutgers, his first college score, Morgan has gotten plenty more chances with the football in his hands, and he has undoubtedly made them count. Yesterday, he earned some recognition for his success, being named Michigan’s Rookie of the Year.

Michigan football freshman earns team Rookie of the Year honors

Last night, in Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan football team held its annual team awards ceremony after going 13-0 and winning the Big Ten for a second straight season. As the Rose Bowl approaches, it’s clear that this year’s Wolverines are different: JJ McCarthy and other team leaders are older and have developed both mentally and physically.

That said, younger faces are shining as well, such as Michigan football freshman wide receiver Semaj Morgan — the Wolverines’ 2023 Rookie of the Year. Despite being a three-star out of high school, Morgan has been given the football time and time again this season, leading to some incredible plays. In fact, against Iowa, Michigan let Morgan return a punt for the first time, which turned out to be a massive run that nearly resulted in a touchdown — Blake Corum ran the ball in a few plays later.

Semaj Morgan is a game-changer for the Wolverines

Throughout the 2023 season, Semaj Morgan has appeared in all 13 games making 17 catches for over 180 yards and two touchdowns. He also has 61 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, 159 kick return yards, and an 87-yard punt return.

As the Rose Bowl against Alabama approaches, Michigan football and Semaj Morgan are gearing up for a potentially massive push for the national championship. Despite being in his first year with the Wolverines, Morgan is a difference-maker and rightfully earned his Rookie of the Year honors, which were announced on Sunday night.
