Ever since the firing of linebackers coach Chris Partridge this fall, Michigan football has been looking for a replacement. This offseason has seen a lot of movement on the Michigan coaching staff, including promotions for various offensive coaches and the hiring of new defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. Recently, Michigan hired Brian Jean-Mary to coach the linebackers, a role he is well familiar with after having done it with the Wolverines in the 2020 season.

Michigan football brings back Brian Jean-Mary to coach linebackers

In 2023, Michigan football was the No. 1 total defense in the FBS. While former Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter followed Harbaugh to the NFL, the program still has lots to be excited about with the new coaching staff.

Brian Jean-Mary will bring great experience as a linebackers coach to a position group that has a lot of potential. Last year, Michigan football added rising star transfer Ernest Hausmann to the linebacker room, who made an immediate impact as a sophomore.

Jean-Mary has been coaching for over 20 years with various programs and has been a linebackers coach for Georgia Tech, Louisville, Texas, and most recently, Tennessee. Along with his coaching experience, Jean-Mary brings a history of success in recruiting as well.

Michigan’s defense is preparing to reload for another year of domination with a new look on the defensive staff. The team will see its first action in the annual Michigan Spring game this April, 20th.
