Right now, Jim Harbaugh – who is heading into his 9th season at the helm in Ann Arbor, MI – is facing a four-game suspension from the NCAA ahead of the 2023 season. On Thursday, during Big Ten Media Day, Michigan football players (such as senior Blake Corum) had a chance to comment on how the Maize and Blue will proceed if Harbaugh is suspended this fall.
Michigan football players comment on how the team will handle the suspension of Jim Harbaugh
First off, it is important to note that even if Jim Harbaugh is suspended, it should not impact the 2023 Michigan football season. The Wolverines’ first four games are against ECU, Bowling Green, UNLV, and Rutgers – all of which should be easy victories for the Maize and Blue.
That said, losing a head coach for a few games is just another bit of adversity that the Wolverines may need to face if they are to win it all this year.
“I’ll say great,” Michigan football star Mike Sainristil said on how Michigan football will handle a suspension, per On3. “We’ll go out there and play the football that (Jim Harbaugh) wants us to play. I know whether he’s there or not he’s going to be happy to watch us play. Not happy to not be coaching out there, but we’re going to go out there and do what he’d want us to do.”
In addition to Jim Harbaugh, offensive play-caller Sherrone Moore is also likely to pick up a one-game suspension for the 2023 season opener – this could have a small impact on the Michigan football offense, but Blake Corum doesn’t appear too worried about any of it.
“I don’t really know too much about the whole situation,” Corum said on Thursday. “I don’t really know what’s going on. But, you know, we’re gonna treat each game the same. We know coach Harbaugh, whether he’s there or not, he’s gonna be there spirit. He’s prepared us. You know, so those four games we could rally together. Like I said, if anything is gonna light a fire under us – make us want to win even more.
“We love coach Harbaugh,” Blake Corum continued. “We’re all behind him. Coach Harbaugh is a great coach. And he’s a great human being. He’s done so many good things for the community, for us, you hate to see it, I don’t know what’s going on. You know, but if that is the case, we’re gonna keep playing ball and we’re gonna play for him.”
In fact, as said by Blake Corum, Michigan football may use these suspensions as further motivation, adding fuel to the fire as the Wolverines chase the program’s first national title since 1997.
