After an impressive 13-1 campaign in 2022, the Maize and Blue are trending towards winning the program’s first national title since 1997 this fall. If the Wolverines are to finally overcome their playoff woes, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy must take the next step in his development and lead this year’s offense back to prominence as a ball carrier and passer. As seen in years past, Michigan’s title odds may live and die with McCarthy’s junior season performance.
Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy and elite leader, “the best QB in America”
According to Michigan football offensive coach Ron Bellamy, JJ McCarthy is poised for great things during the coming season. In fact, according to Bellamy, there may not be a better leader in the game.
“We had a great spring ball,” Ron Bellamy said on the ‘In The Trenches’ podcast. JJ (McCarthy) is one of the best leaders I’ve ever been around. He had a great spring. I always start off with the quarterback; that’s the leader of your offense.”
JJ McCarthy’s talents as a Wolverine extend beyond his leadership abilities. According to Bellamy, Michigan football boasts the best quarterback in the country heading into this crucial season.
“We’re super excited about JJ As a football team,” Bellamy continued. “But particularly in our receiver room, we know we have the best quarterback in America.”
McCarthy and the Wolverines are chasing greatness
As the Wolverines aim for a third consecutive conference championship and beyond this fall, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy must continue to strive for greatness in Ann Arbor. He led the Maize and Blue to the playoff, falling just short of the title game, in his first year as a starter, and now seems ready to help his team achieve ultimate success.
In addition to team accomplishments, JJ McCarthy is also aiming for individual recognition. He has the potential to become a Heisman Trophy candidate and may even break the current Michigan single-season passing touchdowns record of 25, set by Chad Henne in 2005.
