Earlier this morning, Michigan football running back Donovan Edwards met with the media for the first time since the start of spring ball, which officially began last Wednesday. Ahead of the coming college football season, Edwards is looking at many roles for the Wolverine offense — he can catch, run, and even play defense if that is what head coach Jim Harbaugh asks of him.
Michigan football running back Donovan Edwards can do it all
With the best running back room in all of college football, Michigan football running back Donovan Edwards could be moved around quite a bit to meet other team needs this year. As one of the best athletes in the country, Edwards is confident that he can rise to any occasion, including playing defense and even kicking the ball.
“I mean, you’ve kind of seen a glimpse of everything already,” Donovan Edwards said this morning at Schembechler Hall. “Like I could catch, run, pass block. There’s not many things I can’t do, you know, besides like — you haven’t seen me play defense, but I’m sure I could do it, you know? Have you ever seen me kick a field goal? I’m sure I could do that too.
“So I mean, it’s not really things that you guys haven’t seen already that I can’t do. Maybe it’s like me being more consistent in that and, you know, like maybe continuing to be healthy. So you see it on a day-to-day basis. But besides that, I’ve already shown what I can do.”
This fall, Michigan football has many options when it comes to Donovan Edwards; he can catch, he can run, and so much more — the challenge for Jim Harbaugh at this point is figuring out when to move Edwards around and when to let him pound the rock like a traditional rusher.
