Yesterday, on the ‘Inside Michigan Football‘ radio show, Michigan football running back Donovan Edwards expressed his desire to play some quarterback for the Wolverines. As many fans remember, the Wolverine star launched a 75-yard touchdown pass as a true freshman two years ago in the team’s Big Ten title game victory over Iowa (42-3). Additionally, it has become abundantly clear that Edwards sees himself as a jack of all trades; and frankly, the coaching staff seems to agree.

Right now, Michigan football running back Donovan Edwards is seeing a number of roles for the Wolverines. While he is still primarily a tailback, Edwards has also been stepping into the spotlight as a wide receiver as of late. On top of that, Donovan Edwards also says that he wants to play some quarterback this year as well.

“(I’ll do) whatever the team needs me to do,” Edwards said on the ‘Inside Michigan Football’ podcast yesterday evening. “I’m always going to stay ready — I’ll play quarterback if the team needs me to … I’ve talked to coach (Sherrone) Moore about it, please believe. I’ll read the coverages if you need me to.

“I have the best QBR rating in Michigan history,” Edwards added.

Could Donovan Edwards get a chance at QB?

Right now, Donovan Edwards has a single passing stat: 1/1 for 75 yards and a touchdown. While his Big Ten title game touchdown pass was impressive (to say the least), he is yet to get the opportunity again since. While JJ McCarthy needs no help getting the passing attack going for the Wolverines, Edwards is making his desire to air it out well-known to the nation.

Against UNLV this weekend and in the weeks to come, keep an eye on Edwards and his ability to throw the football — with an athlete like him, you never know if he will get his number called to sling it around.
