He is not the Wolverines’ top commit in the 2024 recruiting class by any means, but new Michigan football signee Devon Baxter — a four-star edge rusher out of Maryland — is on the rise in the latest national rankings.

When Devon Baxter, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound edge rusher out of Brandywine, MD, gets to campus later this year, we suspect heads will start to turn. Why? Well, even 247 Sports’ latest 2024 recruiting rankings are taking note of the Wolverines’ massive defender, as seen in their latest rankings update.

Back in October (Oct. 9), Devon Baxter ranked as the No. 629 player in the country; however, in recent months, the four-star defender has made some massive strides in the latest recruiting rankings. In fact, per January 22’s update, he is the No. 185 player nationally — a whopping 442-spot jump since his ranking update back in October of 2023.

Michigan’s defensive line in good hands with Devon Baxter and the 2024 recruiting class

Since Jim Harbaugh arrived in Ann Arbor — perhaps even before then — Michigan football has been pumping defensive line talent into the NFL as well as anyone in the country; names like Aidan Hutchinson, Mazi Smith, David Ojabo, and others stand out in recent years. Even heading into 2024, it appears that Michigan will be ready to reload and make another run at being the country’s No. 1 defensive unit.

Devon Baxter is just a 2024 Michigan football signee for the time being, but make no mistake, you don’t just jump 442 spots in three months for no reason — he is a future star in the making.
