Fall camp starts today for Jim Harbaugh and his Wolverines, officially beginning the final stages of preparation for the coming season. For Michigan football sophomore cornerback Will Johnson, this year should be a big one for him — he is now the Wolverines’ CB1 and will play a major role in the team’s run at a third-straight Big Ten title and more this fall. According to Pro Football Focus, Johnson ranks just outside of the top 20 players in all of college football.

As the 2023 college football season approaches, Pro Football Focus is slowly releasing its top 50 players in the entire sport, regardless of position or side of the football. With this, Michigan football sophomore Will Johnson, who was a breakout cornerback for the Wolverines during his true freshman season in 2022, has been pinned as one of the best players in the game, coming in at No. 21 nationally.

Last year, Will Johnson recorded the highest PFF grade of any true freshman, helping the Maize and Blue win a second-straight Big Ten Championship and appear in the College Football Playoff. Now, as a sophomore, Johnson is being pinned as a preseason All-Big Ten selection and is considered a potential All-American this fall — he is also ranked as a top-3 NFL Draft prospect for the 2025 cycle.

Last fall, Michigan football sophomore Will Johnson appeared in all 14 of the Wolverines’ games at cornerback, recording 27 total tackles (25 solo), two tackles for loss, three interceptions, and breaking up six passes. His freshman year performance earned him high honors, such as Michigan football Defensive Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-American honors by PFF and The Athletic.

This fall, expect big things from the Wolverines’ star cornerback as he looks to lead the Michigan football defense to greatness in pursuit of the team’s first national title in nearly three decades.
