Michigan football superstar drops in updated 2023 Heisman Trophy odds

Over the weekend, the Wolverines downed the UNLV Rebels in convincing fashion, ultimately winning 35-7 despite taking the starters out during the third quarter. For Michigan football superstar quarterback JJ McCarthy, Saturday’s performance was his second-straight elite game of the 2023 season; despite this, he has moved down in the newly updated 2023 Heisman Trophy odds.

Michigan football handled its business against the UNLV Rebels yesterday, and while JJ McCarthy had an incredible performance, the Wolverines’ junior quarterback has been bumped down in the new 2023 Heisman Trophy odds. Now, to be fair, this is largely due to Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers downing Alabama on the road more than anything, as he is the reason that McCarthy fell to the bottom of the top-5 this week.

Last weekend, after shining bright against ECU, McCarthy made a massive leap in the Heisman odds, going from hardly top 10 to the No. 4 contender, per Vegas Insider. Now, heading into Week 3, McCarthy is down to No. 5 — he trails Quinn Ewers (Texas), Jordan Travis (Florida State), Michael Penix (Washington), and Caleb Williams (USC). He is currently at +1400 or +1600, depending on the sportsbook you’re using.

Yesterday, the Michigan football superstar completed 22 of his 25 passes for nearly 280 yards and a pair of touchdowns. This impressive stat line puts McCarthy at 558 yards and five touchdowns on the season — he also leads the nation in QBR (95.3) so far on the year.
