The Maize and Blue have been one game away from the program’s first-ever national title game berth for the past two seasons, yet have fallen short in both matchups. Heading into the 2023 season, Michigan football veteran wide receiver Cornelius Johnson, who shined last fall, is ready to attack this fall in hopes of bringing another Big Ten title and more to Ann Arbor.

Michigan football only has a few veteran wide receivers returning in 2023. Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson, who both saw increased workloads in 2022, are going to be counted on for much more than they have in the past this fall — in fact, Johnson may step up and become the Wolverines’ new WR1 since Ronnie Bell is now heading to the NFL ranks.

“In my mind. I’m like, dang, I can’t go out like that, like, I just have one more year, I really feel like we can attack that opportunity,” he said, according to 247 Sports. “Nothing’s guaranteed. It’s so difficult to go out there and win a Big Ten football game.”

After falling just short two seasons in a row, Michigan football is poised and ready to make another run at the College Football Playoff and the 2024 national title. If the Maize and Blue want to finally break through their glass ceiling, improving the passing game will be essential. Cornelius Johnson and second-year starting quarterback JJ McCarthy are bound to have a year of bigger and better in 2023.

“All those tough matchups, you can’t take any of it for granted,” Johnson continued. “So we know that work we put in, but we had a double down on that and work even harder to do things we haven’t done before.”

Watch for Michigan football veteran wide receiver Cornelius Johnson to have a massive season in 2023, potentially contributing to the Wolverines’ collection of hardware in the trophy case.
