A Michigan Wolverines football quarterback has not been taken in the first round of the NFL Draft in the modern era of college football. Currently, the Maize and Blue have an incredibly talented former five-star recruit at the helm — JJ McCarthy, who aims to lead his program to the College Football Playoff for the third consecutive time and become one of the top quarterback prospects in his class. Recently, new 2024 mock drafts have placed McCarthy among the top 10 quarterback targets for the 2024 draft.
Michigan Wolverines football QB JJ McCarthy ranked as a top 10 quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft class
The 2023 season is expected to be a significant one for JJ McCarthy and the Michigan Wolverines football program. In his first season as Michigan’s full-time starter last year, McCarthy and the Wolverines achieved a program record of 13 victories. The Maize and Blue also secured a second-straight Big Ten title and playoff berth, solidifying the team’s standing as one of the best in program history.
Heading into the new season, McCarthy is anticipated to accomplish great things. He is poised to break records, lead his team to another victory over Ohio State, clinch a conference title, and possibly even secure the program’s first national championship since the 1997 season. If he can deliver, there is a good chance he will be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, potentially in the first round. Although he is currently not considered a first-round prospect, JJ McCarthy is still ranked among the top 10 quarterbacks in the 2024 class, according to the latest draft rankings.
Draft Countdown ranks JJ McCarthy as the No. 9 quarterback prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft class, placing him just inside the top 10 and one spot ahead of former Michigan football quarterback Joe Milton. Additionally, the draft board lists Michigan’s star quarterback as the No. 120 prospect in this class, a ranking that he undoubtedly aims to improve upon in the upcoming season.
Regardless of his NFL prospects, JJ McCarthy’s primary goal at the moment is to lead Michigan football to a national title this fall — something he shares with many of his teammates.
