Michigan Wolverines football is favored to win this year’s Big Ten Championship Game for the third season in a row. With a trip to the College Football Playoff and a potential national title game berth on the line this fall, the Wolverines need to take things one game at a time to go above and beyond once more. In this year’s initial betting lines, the Maize and Blue open as three-score favorites to start Big Ten conference play (against Nebraska) with a victory.

Michigan Wolverines football opens as huge Week 5 favorite against the Nebraska Cornhuskers

During Week 5 of the upcoming season, Michigan Wolverines football will be facing off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the road in Lincoln. Two seasons ago, during Jim Harbaugh’s first Big Ten title-winning season, the Maize and Blue picked up their first road win over the Cornhuskers. This year, Harbaugh looks to make it four wins in a row over Nebraska — he claims wins over the Huskers in 2018, 2021, and 2022.

According to this year’s initial betting spread, Michigan football is favored over the Nebraska Cornhuskers by three scores to open Big Ten road play. Per The Action Network, the Wolverines are open at -18 for their Week 5 matchup in Lincoln.

As I have mentioned in a previous piece, this Michigan-Nebraska game could set the tone for the Wolverines’ 2023 campaign. In both of Michigan’s previous title-winning seasons, the Maize and Blue had a tone-setting early win — in 2021, it was against Washington (or perhaps Wisconsin). Last fall, it was an astounding 41-17 victory over Penn State. This fall, a major win could very well be a road victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
