Last month, the Maize and Blue added another name to their 2023 transfer portal class: former UMass captain, Josh Wallace. Cornerback depth has been a major concern for the Wolverines entering the new college football season, making Wallace’s presence a huge addition to this year’s defense. Entering the new season, this new Michigan football transfer commit is already standing out as a potential starter.

Josh Wallace, a standout during his four years with the UMass Minutemen, brings valuable experience to the Wolverines. As a former team captain and All-Independent cornerback, this new transfer portal addition is expected to make an immediate impact and contend for the starting spot opposite sophomore defensive back Will Johnson.

“Josh Wallace is a guy we brought in who is going to do a really good job for us,” Michigan football defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale said, per the ‘In The Trenches’ podcast. “He’s been able to adapt right away. He’s very willing to learn what’s going on, so I’m excited about him.”

Amorion Walker is another major name in the running for a starting role at cornerback this year. He was a wide receiver a few months ago but has since made the change. While he is athletic enough to play defensive back, he was recruited as a wide receiver. As seen during the spring game, Walker is still dealing with the ups and downs of learning a new position.

Josh Wallace brings talent, experience, and a solid frame to this year’s Michigan football defense. Regardless of whether he earns a starting role during Week 1, Wallace should be a regular contributor for the Wolverines throughout the coming season. Keep an eye on this new Michigan football transfer because it appears that he could be in store for a massive season during his first year in the Maize and Blue.
