Mike Morris and Eyabi Okie were the Wolverines’ top two edge rushers last year, yet both have since departed from the program. Now, new Michigan football transfer edge rusher, Josaiah Stewart, who began his career with Coastal Carolina, will be looking to step up into a much larger role for the Maize and Blue throughout the coming year, impressing many coaches throughout the offseason.

Josaiah Stewart was one of the top transfer portal additions for Michigan football during the offseason. He may be a bit undersized for typical edge rusher standards, but he was one of the top players in the portal and appears to be a major addition to the Maize and Blue defense. According to Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston, the Wolverines’ new transfer edge rusher has already been impressive during his time in the Maize and Blue.

“He’s as dominant of a pass rusher as we have,” said Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston, according to The Wolverine. “He’s not only got speed, but he’s also got some power, too. So even though he’s a little bit on the shorter side than then those other guys in terms of length, he’s he makes up for it with versatility in his moves and his skill set that he uses.”

As Michigan football turns the page to the 2023 college football season, the program is pursuing some massive goals, including a third-straight Big Ten title and perhaps even a national championship. Josaiah Stewart will undoubtedly play a substantial role for the Maize and Blue this fall, and he could become a key piece to the puzzle for the Wolverines throughout the coming season.
