This fall, veteran Michigan football wide receiver Cornelius Johnson has truly started to come into his own. In past years, the Wolverines’ big-bodied wideout was impactful, yet lacked a true breakout season until this year. Earlier this week, Jim Harbaugh gave the latest on Johnson and explained what makes him such a threat for Michigan’s impressive offense this year.

What makes this Michigan football wide receiver Cornelius Johnson stand out?

Cornelius Johnson is JJ McCarthy‘s second-favorite wide receiver this year, only trailing one of the country’s most elite wideouts: Roman Wilson. On Monday, Jim Harbaugh gave more insight into Johnson’s special season through six games.

“Talent, speed, route running ability — he’s a very good catcher of the ball,” Jim Harbaugh said. “He (Johnson) had the one drop, but then he had some real exceptional plays. The post that he caught (against Minnesota) after being, we thought, interfered with on the field and from the film, to still have that concentration and make that catch. His balance, (strength coach) Ben Herbert’s pointed that out before; his slap block control just keeps showing up. Ohio State last year — this year in this game (Minnesota) a couple of times. Pretty elite level that way. Yeah, we noticed that too — game ball to Cornelius Johnson as well.”

This weekend, the Michigan football wide receiver looks to stay hot against the Indiana Hoosiers in Week 7 of the season. So far this fall, Johnson has hauled in 18 passes for 342 yards and a touchdown in just six games.
