With the spring game in the rearview mirror, most of the attention surrounding the Wolverines’ football program is on recruiting. While Michigan football has put together an incredible 2024 class (thus far), the Wolverines are also going after a number of 2025 recruits as well, including in-state athlete Xavier Newsom, a 2025 four-star athlete.
Michigan football offers rising 2025 athlete
Recently, the Michigan football program became the first to offer 2025 four-star athlete Xavier Newsom, a Rivals four-star from Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Detroit, MI. Since Newsom is a 2025 recruit, few outlets have had a chance to evaluate him so far, though the Rivals Network is already high on him; Rivals lists Newsome as a 2025 four-star athlete and ranks him as the No. 8 athlete and No. 4 player in the state of Michigan.
The Wolverines are already making a great impression on Newsom
After receiving the Wolverines’ offer and visiting Ann Arbor, Newsom was clearly high on Jim Harbaugh’s program early on in his recruitment.
“It felt good to get that Michigan offer,” Newsom told EJ Holland of On3. “That’s one of the schools that I’ve always want to go to. I’m blessed that I got it so early.”
According to Xavier Newsom, his first recruiting trip with the Michigan football team went well.
“I really liked the visit,” Newsome said. “I really liked the coaches. I got to talk to Coach (Jim) Harbaugh, Coach Clink (Steve Clinkscale) and Coach (Grant) Newsome. I got to take some photos and eat some food in The Big House. What stood out the most was Ms. Christina (DeRuyter). She spent time with my grandparents, walked us out to the car and made us feel like family … “[Michigan football is] going to be Top 5 for sure. I like how they use their tight ends. I know that they make sure they get their tight ends drafted. I also like that they win.”
Even though the 2025 recruiting class is still quite young, the Wolverines are in good shape with a number of top players, including four-star athlete Xavier Newsom.
