This evening, major four-star edge rusher Devon Baxter, one of the Wolverines’ top targets in the 2024 cycle, announced his pledge to Michigan football. With this new commitment, the Wolverines now have 22 hard commits in the cycle and counting. For reference, Harbaugh’s 22 commitments thus far are far more than he has ever had before July 1st (the next highest was 16) during his tenure in the Maize and Blue.

Michigan football lands new four-star pass rusher to 2024 recruiting class

Today, Michigan football landed four-star pass rusher Devon Baxter, an elite target out of Maryland in the 2024 recruiting class. Jim Harbaugh and his Maize and Blue recruiting class have been pursuing Baxter for quite some time now. All reports indicate that the coaching staff, especially second-year play-caller Jesse Minter, love Baxter and have had him high on the priority list for quite some time.

For Michigan football, this is the 22nd time that a recruit in this class has pledged their commitment. On top of that, it adds yet another blue-chip prospect to Michigan’s No. 2 overall class, which bodes quite well for the Wolverines down the stretch.

According to the ON3 rankings, this new Michigan football commit is the No. 27 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 8 recruit in the state of Maryland. Over the weekend, Michigan missed out on four-star pass rusher Aaron Chiles, who was considered a strong lean for Michigan but chose the Florida Gators instead.

Making up for that miss with a top talent like Baxter is a great addition for the Maize and Blue, especially since fellow four-star edge rusher Elias Rudolph, who recently announced his commitment date, is also expected to choose the Wolverines shortly.
