On Thursday, less than a week into Michigan’s spring practices, it appears that Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh has a new starting corner in mind. Yesterday, we reported that former three-star wide receiver Amorion Walker had made the transition to cornerback. Today, Harbaugh clams that, in his mind, Walker has already earned a starting role on his defense.

Jim Harbaugh is impressed with Amorion Walker

This week marks the beginning of Michigan football spring ball, and already, true sophomore Amorion Walker has been turning heads. Earlier this week, Walker made the transition from wide receiver to cornerback, as well as changing her jersey number from No. 4 to No. 1.

Today, head coach Jim Harbaugh had some high praise for the newly-converted corner: “I consider him a starter right now based on first two practices.”

Walker could find starting role opposite of Will Johnson’

It is all but set in stone that former five-star corner (and current rising sophomore) Will Johnson will be the Wolverines’ CB1 this fall. Last year, Johnson proved to be one of the best defensive backs in the nation as a true freshman, and was voted a preseason top 3 corner in the nation by PFF. A bigger issue for Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines has been depth in the defensive backfield, which is a large reason that Walker was moved in the first place.

Heading into the 2023 season, it appears as if Michigan football has itself a new starting corner — one that brings size and speed to the table, and as a former wide receiver, should have fantastic ball-hawking skills.
