In 2023, Peyton O’Leary, the rising star wideout of Michigan football, is aiming to step into a significantly larger role. During the spring game, O’Leary shone, demonstrating that he may have a promising future with the Maize and Blue — he has the potential to emerge as a standout wide receiver for years to come.

Rising Michigan football star wideout may be in store for a breakout year with the Maize and Blue in 2023

The 2023 Michigan football wide receiver corps is looking a bit thin after losing former standout Ronnie Bell, who is now NFL bound. Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson headline the receiver corps, yet there appears to be a lack of depth or, at the very least, a few openings for younger wideouts to step into.

One of those younger wide receivers is Peyton O’Leary, who is heading into his third year with the Maize and Blue yet has only appeared in seven games thus far in his career. During the Wolverines’ spring game on April 1st, Michigan football found its newest rising star wideout.

“This year, I got big plans,” O’Leary said, according to The Michigan Daily. “I want to play on Saturdays … I think I’ll get my opportunity, and that’ll be that. I just gotta run with it.”

With big NFL hopes and plenty of room to earn a bigger role this fall, it’s clear that Michigan football has a rising star wide receiver waiting in the wings. JJ McCarthy and the Maize and Blue offense need more receiving targets, and, as was evident during Michigan’s spring game in April, O’Leary has a chance to fill that role perfectly throughout the coming season.

“It’s a great competition between the room and I’m just gonna continue to attack it and put the best things I can on tape,” O’Leary said. “And hopefully, that will reward me with some playing time on Saturdays.”

This fall, keep an eye on number 81 as the Wolverines pursue a third-straight Big Ten title, a College Football Playoff berth, and perhaps the program’s first national title in nearly three decades.
