We are less than 40 days away from the start of the Michigan football season, which will kick off with a Week 1 game on September 2nd against the ECU Pirates. This week, the preseason Big Ten media poll was released (Cleveland.com), and it appears that the nation is quite high on Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines heading into the new season.
Michigan football dominates the initial preseason Big Ten media poll
After winning back-to-back Big Ten titles and appearing in the College Football Playoff twice in a row, it comes as no shock that Michigan football is among this year’s top 3 teams heading into the new season. That said, few saw this level of dominance coming in the year’s initial preseason Big Ten media poll, which was released this week ahead of Big Ten media day later this week.
Michigan football took first place in the Big Ten East, garnering a whopping 27 first-place votes. The conference’s second-place team is Ohio State, which received eight first-place votes, and is followed by Penn State, which has two first-place votes.
For Michigan football, there are two major teams to beat on the slate this year — if the Wolverines can get past Penn State and Ohio State, there is a good chance that a Big Ten three-peat and a shot at the CFP will be on the line for Michigan. Last year, the Wolverines took care of business with ease, downing the Nittany Lions (41-17) in Ann Arbor, MI, and the Buckeyes (45-23) in Columbus, OH.
Michigan football must face a new challenge now — staying focused despite the nation’s massive expectations.
