ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The 2025 recruiting cycle is starting to come to the forefront of the college football recruiting world, and it’s clear that Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines have taken note. For the Maize and Blue, the 2024 class is all but locked up so far with 26 commits and counting in that class — in the 2025 class, which ranks 7th nationally, Michigan football recruiting appears to be getting hot as well. Recently, it was confirmed that a top five-star target will be coming to Ann Arbor for an unofficial visit next week.

Michigan football recruiting will host major five-star target next week

According to EJ Holland of ON3, Michigan football recruiting will be hosting a major five-star target next weekend: defensive back DJ Pickett, the No. 1 safety in the 2025 recruiting class. Next weekend will mark the end of the recruiting dead period and will be the week of Michigan’s annual ‘BBQ at the Big House’ event, which is a major recruiting time for the Maize and Blue.

Based on new reports, DJ Pickett is set to make the trip to Ann Arbor for yet another unofficial visit with Michigan football. The Wolverines will be hosting a number of other top players in the 2025 cycle, though perhaps none are more important nationally than Pickett.

According to the ON3 rankings, DJ Pickett is a top five-star recruit in the 2025 class; he ranks as the No. 8 player in the nation, the No. 1 safety in his class, and he is the No. 2 player in the state of Florida. As per the Recruiting Prediction Machine, Michigan football recruiting is among Pickett’s top four teams right now and is looking to make a huge push for this talented five-star target early on, perhaps getting a foot in the door for a bigger push as his recruitment drags on into next year.

This is great news for Michigan football recruiting, further establishing DJ Pickett as a major target for Wolverines fans to keep an eye on down the stretch.
