Last night, five-star defensive line target Justin Scott, who was a major prospect for Miami, USC, Michigan, Ohio State, and more, announced his shocking commitment to the Buckeyes. Previously, it appeared that the Miami Hurricanes were poised to land him; however, recent reports also indicated that Michigan football recruiting was starting to close in, yet clearly fell short, as Scott wound up in the Scarlet and Grey.
Michigan football recruiting misses on five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott
Yesterday was not a great one for Michigan football recruiting as the Ohio State Buckeyes landed the major five-star defensive line target Justin Scott. A few weeks ago, the talented defensive line target was in Ann Arbor for an official visit with Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines. Reports showed that the visit went quite well, implying a great deal of mutual interest.
All signs pointed to the race being down to Miami and USC, though some still believed that Michigan football was a strong contender down the stretch as well. That said, few saw Scott picking Ohio State as he did on Sunday night, delivering a major blow to the Wolverines just days into July.
Ohio State trending up in rankings, Wolverines fall to No. 4
Recently, Florida and Ohio State have been landing tons of new major commitments in the 2024 cycle. The Wolverines, who once boasted the No. 1 composite class, are now down to No. 4 following a few great months of recruiting for the Maize and Blue.
According to the composite rankings, Michigan football recruiting missed on a five-star defensive line target in the 2024 class. Justin Scott is ranked as the No. 14 player in the nation, the No. 3 defensive lineman in the class, and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Illinois. While this is not ideal for the Maize and Blue, it’s not the end-all, be-all, and the current Michigan football recruiting class is still in great shape.
