ANN ARBOR, Mich. — After four years of Sean Clifford, the Nittany Lions are ready for something new. That something will come in the form of Penn State’s new QB, Drew Allar, a former five-star who got solid reps as a true freshman last season. In a recent interview, Allar gave props to Michigan football, stating that the Wolverines are the best team that he has ever faced.
Michigan football facing a new Penn State quarterback in 2023
Michigan football gave the Penn State Nittany Lions a beat-down to remember during the 2022 season, sending James Franklin’s team back to Happy Valley with a 41-17 loss. For Penn State, it marked their second-straight defeat against Michigan, and, more importantly, it left a lasting impression on their rising star quarterback — Drew Allar.
Allar has long been hyped as a potential savior of the Penn State football program — he was the No. 1 QB in the class of 2022 and should be a difference-maker for the Nittany Lions this fall. That said, Michigan is poised to make a third-straight run at the Big Ten title and more, and will look to extend their winning streak over Penn State this November.
Drew Allar was impressed with Michigan last fall
In a recent interview, Drew Allar noted that Michigan football is the best team that he has played so far, which is high praise coming from Penn State’s new QB.
“It would definitely probably be that Michigan game,” Allar said on ‘Next Up With Adam Breneman.’ “That was probably the best team that I played against this year. And just going in and playing against those guys, it definitely gave me a sense of realization of what it’s like playing that type of team and I think that really benefited me the rest of the season. I felt like I did, like for the most part, pretty well in that game. There’s just a couple of things I needed to clean up that game.
“But I’d say that just because of the situation we were in at the time and what was going on and how that game was turning out, was definitely probably just in college the most adversity so far.”
Wolverines looking to make it three-straight against the Nittany Lions
Drew Allar will have a second shot at Michigan football during the coming season, and he will unquestionably be hoping for a different result. The last time the Wolverines made the trip to State College was in 2021 when Michigan left Happy Valley with a last-second 21-17 victory over the Nittany Lions, en route to a Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff appearance.
