During the past two seasons, Michigan football wide receiver Roman Wilson, one of the top targets for quarterback JJ McCarthy, has been injured for most of the season. Heading into a new year, with no true WR1 set in stone just yet, Wilson could be gearing up to take this role as his own. According to offensive play-caller Sherrone Moore, who addressed the media this morning, Wilson is “healthy and ready to go” and has been impressive during the Wolverines’ fall camp thus far.
Michigan football wide receiver standing out during fall camp so far
Roman Wilson came to Michigan football as a four-star wide receiver in Jim Harbaugh’s 2020 recruiting class. Since arriving on campus, he has seen his fair share of ups and downs, though his career thus far has been highlighted by a pair of Big Ten titles, wins over Ohio State, and College Football Playoff berths. With Ronnie Bell in the NFL this fall, the Wolverines lack a known WR1 heading into the year, and Wilson could fit the role perfectly.
Earlier today, first-year full-time offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore addressed the media at Schembechler Hall. When asked about Michigan football wide receiver Roman Wilson and his health, Moore had a lot of positive words about his senior pass-catcher.
“Roman’s had a phenomenal camp,” Sherrone Moore said of his star Michigan football wide receiver. “Just very excited for what he can do this year and how he’s going to impact the offense. Obviously, the injuries have hindered him, but he’s been healthy and ready to go. So it’s super exciting for him and the progress he’s made.”
Any untapped potential with Roman Wilson?
With injuries impeding previous campaigns for Roman Wilson, Sherrone Moore was asked a follow-up about this Michigan football star. Is there any untapped potential that fans are yet to witness?
“Yeah, I think you’re gonna see what you saw throughout the year when he was playing,” Sherrone Moore continued. “He’s gonna be extremely consistent, he’s gonna do what he’s asked to do, and he’s taken it to a new level because of the leadership role and the experience he has now. As you play more games, you get better, and I think he’s really done that. And you can see the confidence and a twinkle in his eye when he’s in a game. He’s got a little bit of swagger, understands the game more, understands the offense now.
“He turned it up a little bit, so I’m excited to see him as a receiver this year.”
All Michigan football fans know that Roman Wilson is a special talent for the Maize and Blue, but with his senior season at the doorstep and fall camp underway, keep an eye on this star wide receiver throughout the coming months as he chases the WR1 role and more.
