Today, the undefeated Wolverines were put to the test for the seventh time this year; this time, taking on the Indiana Hoosiers in the rain at the Big House. While the first quarter was not pretty by any means, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy and the offense scored three straight touchdowns in the second quarter — from there, the offense continued to roll, leading to yet another big win for the Maize and Blue. With McCarthy dazzling yet again, the country continues to buzz about the Wolverines’ junior quarterback.

Two drives into the game, it was clear that the Michigan football offense needed some help. That said, after stuttering at the beginning against Indiana, JJ McCarthy and the Wolverines kicked things into high gear in the second quarter — Michigan went from being down 7-0 to taking a 21-7 lead into the half.

McCarthy dazzles in the first half

For JJ McCarthy, the first half saw a number of massive plays — both with his legs and with his arm — which put him back into the national spotlight in Week 7.

The play below, where JJ McCarthy was forced to run and flipped the ball out to Donovan Edwards, is what really had people clamoring over the Michigan QB during halftime.

An explosive second half for Michigan football

Michigan football opened the second half with a massive touchdown drive, which was largely spurred by JJ McCarthy. On 3rd and long, McCarthy was forced to scramble, where he improvised and found tight end Colston Loveland for a massive touchdown, giving Michigan a 28-7 lead.

On the following drive, JJ McCarthy threw his third touchdown pass of the game, connecting with true freshman wideout Semaj Morgan for six. The score gave the Wolverines a 35-7 lead over Indiana — JJ got one more drive, which resulted in a field goal, though was taken out ahead of the fourth quarter.

Yet another impressive game for JJ McCarthy

All said and done, despite being taken out early once again, JJ McCarthy completed 14 of his 17 passes for 222 yards and a trio of touchdowns with no picks. Aside from the Bowling Green game in Week 3, the Michigan football quarterback has strung together quite the season for himself thus far and is among the country’s top Heisman Trophy contenders through seven games.

With today’s win over the Hoosiers, Michigan football is now 7-0 on the year, and JJ McCarthy’s streak of not playing in the fourth quarter has been extended once again. The Wolverines are now set to begin preparation for next weekend’s game against the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing — the team’s third night game of the year.
