There is a lot of good news coming the Wolverines’ way regarding the 2024 recruiting class. Now, in the middle of a reasonably quiet week for 2024 Michigan football recruiting, one of Jim Harbaugh’s top targets has decommitted from Stanford — Jamir Benjamin is now back on the market. Seeing as Benjamin is a top-ranked in-state recruit for Michigan, Harbaugh will likely be in hot pursuit here.

Top-ranked in-state recruit decommits from Stanford

Jamir Benjamin was a major grab for Stanford football, though losing its head coach and more offseason drama has seemingly forced Benjamin to re-open his recruitment. Being a native of West Bloomfield High School, there is no question that the Michigan football program has a lot of interest in this four-star cornerback.

Here is the statement that Benjamin released this week regarding the status of his recruitment:

Jamir Benjamin: ratings and rankings

Most major outlets have Benjamin rated as a three-star cornerback, though ESPN is a bit higher on him, listing him as a four-star and ranking him among the top 30 cornerbacks in the class. According to the Industry Rankings, Benjamin is a three-star cornerback and is ranked as the No. 51 cornerback in the nation and the No. 10 player in the state of Michigan — being right in Jim Harbaugh’s backyard, there is likely a lot of mutual interest between the two.

Michigan football currently favored

With Benjamin decommitted from Stanford, a long list of teams are currently interested — he has 27 significant offers right now, including some regional powerhouses like the Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, Penn State Nittany Lions, and more.

According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Michigan football has regained the lead following his decommitment — Harbaugh holds the best odds to land this top-ranked in-state recruit with a 50.8% chance. The next closest team behind Michigan is the Penn State Nittany Lions, who hold a 23.3% chance.
