This weekend, the undefeated No. 3 Wolverines (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten) will face the struggling Terrapins (6-4, 3-4) on the road in a game that may turn out to be the program’s 1,000th all-time victory. With Jim Harbaugh suspended and Sherrone Moore coming off of a huge win over Penn State, who will coach Michigan football against Maryland this weekend?

With Jim Harbaugh suspended, who will coach Michigan football against Maryland on Saturday?

When determining who will be coaching Michigan football against Maryland on Saturday, there are a few factors to keep in mind. One — Sherrone Moore is the man right now, boasting a 2-0 record as interim head coach with Jim Harbaugh suspended this season. Sherrone Moore shinned last weekend on the road at No. 10 Penn State, making him a great candidate to follow up and lead Michigan the rest of the way if needed.

Second option: Jim Harbaugh gets his TRO and returns against the Terps

Two — Jim Harbaugh is suspended… for now. This weekend, U-M lawyers and the Big Ten Conference will meet in front of a judge, with the University of Michigan hoping to be granted a TRO (temp. restraining order) against the conference. If successful, the question of who will be coaching Michigan football this weekend will answer itself: Jim Harbaugh.

However, if Jim Harbaugh is not permitted back, who will lead Michigan football against Maryland on the road this Saturday? Harbaugh gave insight into the Wolverines’ next man up earlier today.

“Sherrone Moore (will be interim coach if Harbaugh remains suspended),” Jim Harbaugh told us on Monday. “That’s, as I said — I mean, it’s got a lot of leaders. Some people scoff at a lot of some things I said; I think I said it way back in April, too: 10 coaches will be future head coaches. Like I made the statement, I think four would be head coaches after this year.

“Sherrone is the best of the best. Toughness, mental toughness, physical toughness,” Jim Harbaugh added. “And there’s nobody that doubts Sherrone Moore, his dedication, his connection, his commitment to the team.”

So, this weekend, there are two options to be Michigan’s head coach. If Harbaugh gets his TRO this weekend, he will lead the Wolverines against Maryland; however, if he remains suspended, Michigan football offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore will get the call.
