In 2020, former Michigan football QB Joe Milton got the starting nod for the Wolverines after serving as a backup for the previous two seasons. It became evident early on that Milton was not the right man to lead the Maize and Blue, as the Wolverines fell to a 2-4 record that year. Subsequently, Milton entered the transfer portal and committed to Tennessee. After spending two more seasons as a backup, Milton is set to make his first start in three years this fall.

Following Joe Milton’s departure, Michigan football had its best season in decades, finishing with an overall record of 12-2, securing a Big Ten title, and making an appearance in the College Football Playoff. Nevertheless, three years after his last game for the Maize and Blue, Milton now aims to contend for the SEC title with his new team, the Tennessee Volunteers.

According to the ON3 Network’s latest projections, former Michigan QB Joe Milton is considered a potential top 5 college football quarterback for the 2023 season, ranking at No. 5. Milton possesses strong arm strength and has proven himself as a runner. However, concerns remain regarding his accuracy and decision-making based on his past performances.

During Tennessee’s Orange Bowl game, Joe Milton led his team to a New Year’s Six bowl victory over Clemson, marking the Vols’ first NY6 win in quite some time. This triumph further amplifies the anticipation surrounding the former Michigan football starter as the 2023 season approaches.

If Joe Milton can refine his throwing accuracy and improve his decision-making on the field, he has the potential to become a top quarterback in college football and a first-round NFL Draft pick. With his physical attributes and six years of college development, it is possible that he possesses the intangibles necessary for success at the highest level.
