Michigan football recruiting has been working to land a highly sought-after blue-chip receiver over the last few months. Jordan Shipp, a four-star receiver and current teammate of Jadyn Davis, was initially gaining hype in the Wolverine fan base as a key target. However, Shipp announced his commitment to the North Carolina Tar Heels earlier today.
Four-star wide receiver Jordan Shipp announces commitment to North Carolina
Because of the Wolverine’s run-heavy offense, Michigan football recruiting is at a disadvantage with receiving recruits. However, fans were optimistic about Jordan Shipp because of his connection to Michigan football quarterback commit Jadyn Davis. Shipp and Davis both play football together at Providence Day School, and many fans were hoping Shipp would follow his quarterback to Ann Arbor.
Shipp holds a four-star composite ranking on 247 Sports and could have made an immediate impact on the Wolverine receiving corps. However, Shipp decided instead to join the ACC and play for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Michigan football recruiting still holding strong for 2024
Despite losing a key recruiting target, Michigan football still holds the No. 4 overall 2024 recruiting class. The Wolverines may lose some key starters after 2023, but the recruiting class should turn over a new chapter of Michigan football.
In addition to the young receivers currently on Michigan’s roster, four-star receiver Channing Goodwin will be joining the Wolverines. Like Shipp, Goodwin is a teammate of Jadyn Davis at Providence Day School.
Michigan football will also add on four-star composite receiver I’Marion Stewart in 2024. Despite losing Shipp, the Wolverines will still have young receiving options moving forward.
