Michigan football recruiting recently lost its No. 1 ranking in the team standings to the defending national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs. However, the Wolverines remain within striking distance and can regain their top position with a few key commitments. Today, a new insider prediction emerged, indicating that the Ohio State Buckeyes are poised to secure one of their primary targets, Bryce West, a highly sought-after four-star cornerback.
The Wolverines had been actively pursuing West, making this development significant in their recruitment efforts.
A bit of bad news for Michigan football recruiting
Over the past two weeks, Michigan football appeared to be establishing itself as a strong contender for Bryce West, one of the top recruits in the 2024 recruiting class. Today, the Buckeyes earned a new prediction for the four-star Ohio recruit, seemingly solidifying their status as West’s landing spot. What once felt like a glimmer of hope for the Michigan Wolverines has all but vanished.
Hailing from Cleveland, OH, Bryce West is a highly regarded four-star defensive back prospect. He ranks at No. 54 nationally, No. 6 among cornerbacks, and No. 2 among Ohio recruits in the 2024 cycle. As a top regional prospect, West has garnered significant national interest, although Michigan and Ohio State seem to have a clear advantage over other competitors.
This is not the end of the world for Michigan football recruiting. The Wolverines are still in the running for several top-ranked targets and have even managed to overtake the Buckeyes in pursuit of a four-star EDGE recruit. Despite this less-than-ideal news, the Wolverines are currently in a favorable position in the long run.
