The Michigan football uniform is iconic — from the unmistakable winged helmet to the flamboyant Maize and Blue color scheme, the Wolverines undeniably boast one of the best uniforms in sports. However, in the modern era of college football, fans crave more than just the regular home and away uniforms. Therefore, here are three unique uniform combinations that Michigan could unveil during the 2023 season.

3 new potential Michigan football uniform combos that we want to see in 2023

To be clear, these are Michigan football uniform combos, not entirely new uniforms. Die-hard Maize and Blue fans who closely follow recruiting might have even caught glimpses of some of these combinations, as recruits often showcase unconventional uniform setups in their visit photos. Regardless, here are three intriguing combos that we hope to see during the 2023 season. (Photos via @SwankyWolverine)

Blue top, white pants

This combo has gained immense popularity among recruits, and recently, numerous Michigan football fans have also been advocating for its use. For critical matchups like Ohio State, I understand the importance of sticking to the standard home or away uniforms.

However, considering that the Wolverines will face several less-touted home opponents this year, I believe it would be a fantastic idea to don this uniform against teams like Purdue or similar-caliber opponents. It could bring a fresh and exciting look to the field while maintaining the iconic spirit of the Maize and Blue.

All-Maize

Maybe this is considered cheating, as Michigan football has technically worn the All-Maize uniform once before. It was during the Wolverines’ triumphant 33-17 victory over the Florida Gators in 2017 when Jim Harbaugh’s squad rolled out this combination. However, since then, the uniform has been buried and not worn again.

Nevertheless, with a slight color scheme alteration (darker), these could be a fantastic option to wear under the lights or against a non-conference opponent. This change would add a refreshing twist for the fans and recruits, while still preserving the team’s rich tradition and iconic appeal. The modified All-Maize combo has the potential to inject a renewed sense of excitement and allure into the Wolverines’ on-field presence, likely pleasing both fans and recruits alike.

These maize tops with blue pants are my personal favorite among the three potential 2023 Michigan football uniform combos — also, it has become evident that no alternate uniform has garnered more popularity with recruits than this one. In the upcoming 2023 season, the Wolverines could consider donning these outfits for one of their seven home games, though again, anything but Week 13 against the Buckeyes.

While they may not give a great visual during a noon kickoff (though I could be mistaken), based on what I’ve seen in recruiting photo shoots, Michigan football would undoubtedly be the best-dressed team of the week with this combo for a night game.
