Heading into the 2023 college football season, the Wolverines are still looking for a few answers at wide receiver — one of the few question marks that the Maize and Blue need to address during fall camp. Ahead of camp, Michigan football freshman breakout candidate, Fredrick Moore, a former Rivals four-star wide receiver in Jim Harbaugh’s 2023 signing class, has switched his number from No. 82 to No. 3.

Fredrick Moore could make an immediate splash for Michigan football in 2023. As a high school prospect, Moore was a coveted wideout hailing from St. Louis, MO. According to initial scouting reports, Moore is an incredible route runner, showcasing quickness and great hands that make him a threat at any range. His 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame is a bit small for what the Wolverines are looking for in a starting wide receiver, but he has plenty of time to work on that in the coming years.

Right now, Moore appears poised to make a run at being a role player for the Michigan football offense this fall. Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson, both veterans, will headline JJ McCarthy’s top pass catchers, though Moore could subtly become a breakout candidate in 2023 as well.

“I’m for sure going to do special teams,” Fredrick Moore said this spring. “Even though I just started practicing at punt returns, the special teams’ coaches are hollering at me about that. I plan on getting on special teams.

“I feel like I’m more explosive … In high school, I didn’t really lift weights, so it was building my body, getting bigger, the speed of the game, getting my agility right, and knowing different coverages and what I gotta do.”

While Moore initially enrolled with Michigan football as No. 82, he has since changed to No. 3 ahead of fall camp. This is a number to watch on offense this year as the Wolverines search for more receiving production with a lack of proven depth at the position.
