Jim Harbaugh and his Wolverines are about to appear in yet another College Football Playoff following their Big Ten title win over Iowa in December. At the same time, Michigan football recruiting just signed an impressive 2024 class, and appears to be trending for a major SEC target: Ethan Utley, a top 50 recruit out of Tennessee in the class of 2025.

Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class is still young, though seeing as the 2024 class just signed their NLIs, it will be taking centerstage for the Wolverines’ recruiting efforts following their College Football Playoff date against Alabama on New Year’s Day.

Today, one of the top SEC targets in the nation, four-star defensive lineman Ethan Utley, announced his top five schools remaining in his recruitment — Michigan football is among the finalists. Included alongside Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines are Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Syracuse.

Per insider reports, Ethan Utley is looking to choose a school before summertime when he will take his official visits. For the time being, it appears that southern schools — especially his home state Tennessee Volunteers — have a strong lead, though I assume Michigan football could make a major impression by winning a national title this season.

Per the On3 Recruiting Rankings, Ethan Utley is a four-star prospect, ranking as the No. 43 recruit in the nation, the No. 7 defensive lineman in the nation, and the No. 2 player in the state of Tennessee.

While Michigan football recruiting may not have the lead right now, the Wolverines are still in the race and contending for this top-ranked SEC target.
